Gorgeous. I love Velos. I had a 2015 NA and it was a ton of fun.
Always wished it was the turbo model tho

Hi Guys! I've been lurking, but have not introduced myself yet.
I'm Ben from Gilbert and hoping to be able to make it to one of
the future LANs. My favorite PC games from the early 2000s are:
Quake 3 Arena, BF1942, and (time permitting) Empire Earth 1.

We should get a online quake 3 game going this weekend or during
the week in the evening? Not sure how to start a poll to decide on
  a time.

I like that idea. Last weekend I started setting up an
*"official"* LANPARTY2000 server to host a few retro games like
Q3A and some of the other games we play at the events. I got busy
before I could finish it, but I mostly just need to wrap up a few
scripts and do some burn-in testing.

I'm **hoping** to have it online sometime this weekend, but it
should be ready by next weekend unless I run into any real issues.

The trickiest parts are making sure everyone is using compatible
game versions and safely hosting these old games on the Internet.
A lot of them weren't exactly designed with modern Internet
security and in mind, so I'm setting things up so that if one of
the game servers gets compromised, it can't cause problems
  elsewhere.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to stand up a multiplayer server
and invite people here, I'm totally fine with that as long as it
doesn't get too spammy. Feel free to plug your server.

LANPARTY2000 is obviously about the LAN, but since we only get
together six times a year, I think a little online multiplayer
between events could be a lot of fun, especially with friends and
people in the same general area.

Yea, I think just joining a random Quake Live server should
  suffice. Nothing too complicated.

[08/31/26 22:27] REDACTED
Assuming we all ping about the same 🙂

[08/31/26 22:31] REDACTED
Yeah, ping and keeping it local are exactly why I was setting up
an official LANPARTY2000 server here in Phoenix. You are right
though, Quake Live would be easier to get everyone on the same
  version.

What I was planning was password-protecting the game servers and
setting up a bot to post or rotate the passwords in Discord so
access stays limited to people here. That would help keep things
local and hopefully keep out random cheaters and griefers.
Because, of course, I know nobody in **this** Discord would ever
  do such a thing. 😏
